The paper is sold in rolls. With metal roofing its also a good idea to put a layer of red rosin paper between the felt or ice water shield and the metal that way it wont potentialy stick to it and cause oil canning and would allow for expansion. Rosin paper was originally used as a protective barrier on wood subfloors not for moisture but a method installers used years ago to keep plaster dust from getting in their eyes or blasting everywhere when a board was nailed in the old fashioned way by hand.

Slip sheets ultra seam recommends that rosin paper not be used as an underlayment separation sheet between the roofing underlayment and the ultra seam metal roof panels. I ve always preffered to install felt paper on top of subfloor in my remodels prior to installing underlayment so if spills leaks whatever happen it will stop or slow process so rotting. Just like the old days of felt paper on exterior walls and even today on standard roofing it does not prevent mositure since when i think prevent i thinnk 100 but it will slow it down quite a bit so imo something is better than nothing and rosin paper does little other than to say you put somthing down. Use in roofing as a first layer protective barrier.
